Construction is often performed in sensitive areas, such as near gas, water, and electrical lines, which can be easily be damaged by backhoes, excavators and other conventional digging equipment. Failing to account for these hazards may not only result in cost overruns and downtime, but also legal consequences and injury to workers.

Hydro excavation provides a safe alternative to conventional exaction methods. A 400 horsepower diesel truck with specialized pumping equipment can deliver a stream of water at pressures ranging from 200 to 2,500 PSI, at a temperature of up to 190 degrees Fahrenheit. A handheld wand is used to direct the high-pressure stream, which can easily break apart soil—even soil that is frozen or has heavy clay deposits. Then, a vacuum system that generates airflow of up to 8,000 CFM pumps the soil out through an 8” tube, where it is deposited in a 12 cubic yard truck-mounted recovery tank. This debris can then be re-deposited at the site after work is complete or dumped at an adjacent site.
